I don't provide support by PM, because this can be useful for someone else.

Hello,
You lose anything because all datas (users, posts, categories, ...) are saved in the database. Read this doc : docs.kunena.com/index.php/Upgrading_to_l...t_Kunena_1.5_release
For reminder, you have just to install the version of kunena that you want without uninstall the previous version, all is done automaticly.

Hello, Many thanks for your reply especially so very quickly. I had taken a look at the instructions and thought I needed to uninstall the older version first. However I have now tried to install the new version without first uninstalling the old one and I get this message "BZip2 Not Supported". Have I done something else wrong?

Try install with kunena archive in .zip or in tar.gz
If you want bzip2, you need to enable in your php extensions the module : php_bz2

Thank you, that did it. Can I ask another question though. I have Jomsocial on my website too. How can I get Jomsocial integrated with Kunena the way you have done, my two components do not interlink although I can now with this new version of Kunena use the PM facility to go to the message box in Jomsocial for which I thank you very much.

You can do it, in joomla! backend in kunena configuration panel, you have three options : avatar integration, profile and private messaging; which can be integrated with joomsocial.
