Question Bullet List Issues

Hi Everyone:

I have had a concern for a while now with bullet lists in Kunena. On my Forum, when selecting a list and clicking on the bullet list icon, all that happens is the list becomes indented. No bullet character appears at all. The same occurs with numbered lists. Is this by design? It doesn't seem correct. There appears to be an issue here. Is it in the CSS for Kunena? Could it be a more sitewide issue? BTW, I'm running K 1.5.12.

On the new 1.6 forum here, if I create a bulleted list, I see a list with the ">" character instead of the standard "•", i.e. option 8 on my mac keyboard. Is this correct? This doesn't seem right either. Wy would the developers create a list that does not use the standard bullet character.

Now it gets more confusing. If I enlarge the list to a bigger font size, then suddenly the character changes to an open circle. Why?

I'm using Safari on my mac. Hopefully this is not a factor here but if it is, I'm happy to try Firefox. This is quite an important item on my Forum since bulleted and numbered lists are used often.

All comments and guidance is appreciated.

Sincerely,
Howard

I'm not sure of the source of this problem but, instinctively it looks to be CSS-related (possibly related to Safari) that's more likely to be caused by the Joomla site template that you're using insteas of the Kunena template that you may be using.

Can we eliminate Safari as the only way to reproduce the symptoms as far as other users might be concerned? Can you reproduce these same symptoms in Firefox or Internet Explorer, for instance? If you see the problem in Firefox then you also know that it's not just your eyes playing tricks on you ... your users are also likely to be experiencing the same issues, too.

Obviously, it's better that users should diagnose web design issues themselves but, hand-in-hand with that, they also need to invest their time in discovering what are the necessary tools and how to use them. In my experience, Firebug for Firefox is great. There are also tools for Internet Explorer and, maybe, there's something equivalent for Safari, too. If, as I suspect, your problem is caused by CSS, Firebug will let you pin-point the cause of why your bullet points appear as > instead of something else.

Hi Sozzled:

I logged in here with mac firefox and these are my results. Bullet commands consistently produced open circle bullets at all font sizes, not the usual dark solid ones. Numbered lists rendered exactly correctly as you would expect. Is this by design in K1.6 or should the bullets be dark solid type?

Sincerely,
Howard

I think that you've made an unfair comparison, mate, between what's here and what's there, on your site.. This website uses K 1.6 with different CSS; I think the issue is with your website. Let me say again:

Can we eliminate Safari as the only way to reproduce the symptoms as far as other users might be concerned?

Can you reproduce thee same symptoms on your website in Firefox or Internet Explorer, for instance?

On my website, breakthroughcoaching.cc, both bullet lists and numbered lists render exactly the same whether in Safari or Firefox. They both produce indented lists with NO bullet or number character. It is consistent.

I need to determine if this is a function of the Kunena CSS specifically or a site wide issue. This is the first troubleshooting step. I have never altered any codes in the Kunena CSS so I'm at a loss to explain this behavior but of course there is always an explanation.
