Question language after upgrade

Hello

I have asked before and tried to follow instructions.
This is about the language file for the Kunena vs upgrade.

I own a copy of the translated file on my computer.

When I upgraded, I didn't realize that the language file would of course be overwriten, and I want to use my own file from old version to overwrite again to my language..

When I did this, I get the special characters from my languare all scrambled up for some reason..

I want to do all I can to avoid trainslating the whole thing again :(

I know about the utf-8 without BOM and opened the old file in notepad++, added what was new in new language file to the old, saved and uploaded but with this bad result.

If somebody knows what I'm doing wrong and why this does not work for me, please let me know as I can't wait much longer and have the Kunena on my site in english.

Hope to get some advise regarding this

Hi

sorry I didn't include this info..
I have latest version of Kunena and joomla as well.
language is icelandic.

When I translated the language file for the first time, this was no issu. (not until I wanted to overwrite after upgrade).

The first version of K was 1.5.7 and I upgraded from there to 1.5.11

when I noticed the file was overwriten, I opened the old file I owned, copied what was new (on the top if the file) in the new language file and pasted it into the old one.

@icecake
I suspect you've done your translations within kunena.english.php file, no?

If so, no wonder it got overwritten during upgrade, as that file is intended for the original English language that gets updates as everything else.

Please create a proper file for your language as pointed out by Cerberus, and please be more precise when asking your questions in the future as it will greatly improve the response you get. Maybe this will be of help.

Hello

Im very sorry if I wasn't clear enough in my first posts.

I know thre are no translations avaliable here for my language and therefore I translated the english.php default language file and know it get's overwritten during upgrades...

What I did, was to keep a copy of this file on my computer to use when upgrade.

What I need to know, is why it scrambles up the special characters now, but not in previous version.

There must be something wrong in the way I did this.
That was my main question, if some of you experianced guy's in the teem or anyone using Kunena in different language can guide me regarding how to use the 'old' english language file from previous version to my new upgraded Kunena.

As explained before, this is what I did:

located the english language file in the upgrade pack..
found in the top of that file what was added since my version of Kunena...
copied that text
pasted into the translated file I got, so it looked the same as the new file...
saved and uploaded/overwrote the english lang file on server

This should have done the trick, and all get's shown up in my lang.

BUT,, for some reason all special chars like ó, á, æ, ö etc, get's ? marks or suptitude symbols insted of them.

The file is of course utf-8 without BOM
The site is utf-8 as it was displaying this before the upgrade.

Thre must be something I did wrong.. just wanted to see if anyone was able to guide me?

Best regards
