I am wondering if there is a script available to delete all posts/attachments that originate from a specific user (or IP Address).

I've spent hours last night and this morning trying deleting spam that was automatically posted by spambots. Sadly, I've made very little progress since it takes so long to delete a single post.

We decided that it was best to take the forum offline, there was just too much porn discrediting the site.

Deleting posts is a 15-second job for each one. Deleting a whole thread takes the same amount of time (15 seconds and you can delete all posts in one thread). You can also delete multiple threads, also in the same amount of time (15 seconds to delete a dozen topics, if you want). All of these features are currently implemented in Kunena 1.5.

The problem arises because you've allowed spam on your site in the first place. If you are receiving so much spam that it's destroying the reputation of your site then you need to do something about. Part of the problem lies in the niche consumer sector that your site is associated with - certain kinds of sites seem to attract more spam than other kinds of sites. For example, sites that deal with anime - even in a serious, "mature" way - attract a lot of porn. So, if your interest lies in a user "market" that has a notorious reputation for attracting spam it's almost a self-fulfilling prophecy and a daily occupational hazard that you'll have to deal with spam effectively or risk your site being "taken over". That's just the nature of the game, I'm sorry to say.

So, deal first with the source of the spam effectively and you won't have to delete as much. There are many tips on this website to help you handle spam. Please search around. There are many, highly effective ways of catching spam and only a few of them involve Kunena.

Most spammers do not add their rubbish to existing discussion threads: most spammers/bots create new topics for their rubbish. You don't have to spend a lot of time locating spam topics and you can delete several, together, at the one time. I've written this tip elsewhere on this site, how to delete multiple topics. Basically, you can use "Recent Discussions", look at the rightmost column (there's a checkbox), check the spam topics, use the left pull-down at the bottom of the age to Delete, press Go and you're all done.

You can also use your htaccess file to help you in your "war" against spammers.

I would like to thank those who responded, especially Sozzled. I don't know how I never saw that feature--I am really ashamed of myself!! This will make cleanup much easier for me. I also enabled flood control (1 minute).

DTP2, thanks for the tip.

Our job here is not to shame anyone. We try to remember, when we write what we do, that there's a helluva lot to learn about website administration and we're really only scratching the surface in this discussion forum. I'm not surprised that some of the less-obvious features of Kunena don't get "marketed" more vigorously. If we were to list every feature available in Kunena we'd be just as likely to deter new users as we would succeed to attracting them. So, as often is the case, some of these lesser-known features lie waiting for you to discover for yourself ... and for us to, helpfully, point them out if you didn't know they exist.

The best reward that we can hope for is to receive the occasional "thank you" like you have done - we do appreciate the thanks - and if you can spare a few extra minutes to write an honest appraisal of how you feel we're going at the Joomla Extensions Directory , so much the better. The honesty in the JED keeps us on our toes. ;)

I'm really pleased for you and I'm glad that we were able to help.

Regards,

sozz :)

Hello,

It's possible to do that in kunena 1.6, but in kunena 1.5 you need to delete the messages manually in database via phpmyadmin.

I don't provide support by PM, because this can be useful for someone else.
