Introduction

The Kunena Team is excited to announce the release of Kunena 1.6.1. This is a maintenance release for Kunena 1.6 and all users are recommended to upgrade  (backing-up and testing are strongly recommended).

New in Kunena 1.6.1 Hightlights: Advanced ACL and an auto-blending default template (code name: skinner), various languages have been added for over 30 included languages, new module positions called kunena_topic_nnn and kunena_section_nnn, ability to limit the JomSocial activity stream entries in length.

Since the stable release of Kunena 1.6, the Kunena team has been focused on fixing over 100 bugs and issues including CSS fixes, router issues, usability issues, API issues, HTML validation issues, modules and plug-ins, and also updating language translations.

Kunena 1.6 marks a major milestone for the Kunena Project. A long list of open source contributors have committed over 3000 changes and have helped make Kunena the leading forum solution for both Joomla 1.5 and 1.6. A long list of new features in addition to various optimizations and code restructuring have resulted in the most advanced version of Kunena to date.

We continue to put a big emphasis on usability and ease of installation. Therefore, the installer has been further enhanced to allow for multiple installation and upgrade options. It performs incremental steps to avoid timeouts on slower hosts. It automatically performs actions such as taking the forum offline during the installation or upgrade and re-enables it after completing the install.

Kunena now supports Joomla 1.6 style languages files that are backwards compatible with Joomla 1.5. Multiple languages are included in the base install packages and more will be available soon. They can also be installed separately. Kunena 1.6 also supports multiple languages  installed on a single system and, together with Joomla, allows users to select their preferred language.

Templates have now been separated from the underlying code, which allows for version-independent template development. Templates can embed various options that can be set via the included template manager (e.g. avatar position on left, right, top, or bottom in the new default template, Blue Eagle).

The Kunena Team is fully committed to Joomla 1.6 and beyond and a number of modules have been developed to lay the groundwork for future releases of Joomla.

System Requirements

Joomla 1.5.20 Minimum Version Required (Mootools 1.2.x)

Kunena 1.6.x no longer uses jQuery and requires MooTools 1.2+. Since the release of Joomla 1.5.20, the Mootools 1.2.4 system plug-in is now included with Joomla 1.5 and this version contains various fixes on router mecanism. The MooTools plug-in that was included in previous development versions of Kunena is no longer needed. Going forward, Joomla 1.6 will include MooTools 1.2.4 and Kunena is already compatible with this version.

PHP 5.2.3

Kunena 1.6.x requires PHP 5.2.3 or higher. We have also tested it on PHP 5.3.1. In general we currently recommend PHP 5.2.x due to its maturity.

MySQL 5.0.0

Kunena in general and especially version 1.6.x rely on advanced SQL features introduced in MySQL 5.0.x. MySQL 4.x is no longer support even though Joomla 1.5 itself can be run on certain versions of MySQL 4.x. The main difference is the amount of database workload generated by a forum component compared to the basic CMS functionality.

Third party components requirements

If you want running with Kunena 1.6.1, JomSocial, Community Builer, UddeIm or Alpha User Points, you need to have the following versions of these components to avoid any issues :

  • JomSocial 1.6.x
  • Community Builer 1.2.3
  • UddeIm 2.1
  • Alpha User Points 1.5.11

Third-party ACL component requirements

If you want use third party ACL components with Kunena 1.6.1 and Joomla! 1.5, you need to use at least the following versions :

  • NoixACL 2.0.6
  • JXtended Control 1.0.7
  • ArtofUser 1.0.5

thanks,

I am not aware of any "invite friends" menu function. I am certainly not aware of any such feature of Kunena.

K1.6.2 has not a lot of improvements, it's mainly a maintenance release which fix plenty of issues. K2.0 is still in working in progress, so we need to release something with k1.6.x untill k2.0 isn't ready.

Did you upgrade to 1.6.2?

This problemen is a known issue for 1.6.1, but upgrading to 1.6.2 should solve it.

I have had that configuration set to "always" for quite some time. Users still cannot delete their own posts.

I will look for the help categories. I thought this was it.

Thank you for your helpful comments.

This is not a topic to seek help. If you want help please use one of the help categories. When asking for help, it will help you if you give some details about your Kunena configuration (your K 1.6 configuration report will do this for you). Users can delete their own posts in K 1.6 according to the rules as you define them in your Kunena configuration settings. It is highly unlikely your present circumstances are a "bug". K 1.6.2 (when it is made available to the public) is unlikely to make any difference to what's happening at your site. On the other hand, you may have genuinely discovered a software defect.

By default, users cannot delete their own messages. You can change that behaviour by changing the third Kunena Forum Configuration » Security setting. Have you tried this feature?

I know nothing about www.globalfreeenterprise.com or who they are or what they do. www.globalfreeenterprise.com is not endorsed as an approved source of Kunena.

I got some help installing Kunena into my joomla site at

www.globalfreeenterprise.com

I have, through the administrator site, allowed registered users to delete their own posts.

I have version 1.6.0 and it does not allow registered users to delete their own posts. I was told by the organization that installed joomla and Kunena for me that an older version does in fact work on this dimension and that if I had the older version installed, this feature would work, but my template would need to be changed.

I was also told that version 1.6.2 is about to be released. Is this true? Does anybody know if the bug preventing this feature (the ability to delete one's own posts) is fixed in version 1.6.2?

Thank you for your help.

Hello,

The only reliable source to obtain kunena is joomlacode.org/gf/project/kunena/frs/

What version do you have installed K1.6.0 or K1.6.1 or an another one ?

I have just obtained the Kunena forum installation for Joomla at www.globalfreeenterprise.com

I have set permission for each visitor to delete his or her own posts to "always."

Whenever I try to delete my own posts, I get an error message saying that it has already been done, but the messages never goes away.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you for your help.

Nope - 41.41k is 41,410 views.

Why are we shortening the numbers? Because they can get way too long to fit into the template - that would break the page layout.

Many small forums never reach numbers that high and will never see that feature. But some of our forums have Millions of posts and 10s of millions of views.

With this logic (which is part of the template - we just provide the function underneath) designers can leverage the space on the screen much better. 10,000 becomes 10.00k, 100,000 becomes 100.0k, 10,000,000 becomes 10.00M and so on. It is always using 4 significant digits to display the number.
In the end we are talking about topic views - not a number that anybody really needs to see all of it, as it changes from second to second.

Hope this helps!
