With the release of J! 1.7, many people may want to install this new version or upgrade from J! 1.6 to this latest release of Joomla.
You cannot use K 1.6.4 with J! 1.7
We are currently putting the finishing touches on K 1.6.5 which will work with J! 1.7 but this next release of Kunena will not be ready for a few days.

In response to pressures from the Joomla community to attend to the important XSS vulnerabilities discovered in J! 1.6.x, the Joomla team announced today the release of J! 1.6.6.

This important release of J! 1.6 provides a means for those people who are unable (for various reasons) to update to J! 1.7.0. Although the advice about support arrangements for J! 1.6 does not seem to have changed - J! 1.6 support will be withdrawn on 10 August this year - this latest security release for J! 1.6 does provide some temporary relief.

In the meantime, nothing has changed as far as K 1.6.4 not being able to run on J! 1.7 systems. The suggestion posted in the topic /forum/169-k-16-support-archive/100904-j-17--k-164-installed-set-up----nothing does not address all the issues in J! 1.7. This suggestion affects only one of several issues in J! 1.7 and it is not endorsed as a "hotfix" to make K 1.6.4 work on J! 1.7.0.

Further announcements about the availability f K 1.6.5 will follow shortly.

You may discuss this implications of the matters mentioned here in [Merged topic] Joomla 1.7 and implications for Kunena
