Introduction

The Kunena team is proud to announce the arrival of Kunena 3.0.0 [K 3.0.0] which is now available for download as a native Joomla extension for J! 2.5 and J! 3.x. This version addresses most of the issues that were discovered in K 2.0 and issues discovered during the development stages of K.3.0

Kunena 3.0 is a project that has been some ten months in the making. Among other things, the main design objectives for Kunena 3.0 were to remove many lingering legacy issues (caused by the requirement in older versions to maintain J! 1.5 websites) as well as to keep pace with current and emerging Joomla trends.

The key distinctions of K 3.0 are:

  • Major rewrite of the K 2.0 codebase:
    • Added support for J! 3.x
    • Removal of old J! 1.x code
  • New AJAX based installer
  • Backend: Implement advanced filters
  • Backend: Implement batch processing for users
  • Backend: Add option in tools to clean IP addresses
  • Changes to default rank titles
  • Improved security
  • Fixes several defects present in K 2.0.4

What's different?

Because of the substantial changes that this new version introduces (compared with K 2.0), the Kunena 3.0.0 release notes are essential reading before installing K 3.0.0 for the first time or if you are upgrading from an earlier version of Kunena.

Upgrading to K 3.0 involves changes that may affect Kunena's interoperability with other extensions installed on your site. For this reason it is advisable that you first test K 3.0.0 on a test site before you upgrade your live production site(s). At this stage the team is not treating interoperability with other Joomla extensions as the topmost priority. The main priority at this time is about installation/upgrade and operability as a standalone Joomla component.

A brief overview of some of the differences between K 3.0 and K 2.0 is given in Kunena Features in the Wiki.

Changes to the operation of the forum at this website following the release of K 3.0.0

The release of K 3.0 for J! 2.5 and J! 3.x is a major achievement. The development of K 3.0 was an important opportunty to overhaul the old K 2.0 code base and remove those parts that relied upon outdated [J! 1.5] code. The Kunena team understands that people will continue to use K 2.0 for a while longer and that people will continue to ask questions or experience difficulties with K 2.0. It is important to stress that support for K 2.0 cannot continue indefinitely and will cease at the end of August 2013.

Between now and the end of August, the forum will continue to offer people the opportunity to ask questions about K 2.0 as well as K 3.0-related issues, of course. We ask that people take extra care, during this time, and read the category descriptions carefully. In particular, it is your responsibility, as a user of the forum, to choose carefully the category in which you post your topics and messages. It is your responsibility to read the instructions for the use of the forum and to post (wherever possible) your configuration report so that the team can provide you with fast, effective service. If people may be wondering why their questions are not answered, it is most likely that they have ignored this important part of how to use the forum properly. It is not the task of the team to beg for information that should have given in the first place. Please try to remember that our team volunteers are only human and sometimes we do not know the answers either.

Tapatalk is not developed by the Kunena team. Tapatalk is a commercial product available from www.tapatalk.com . The Kunena team has not tested Tapatalk with K 3.0 (see Kunena Features: Interoperability with other Joomla extensions ) and, as far as we know, the Tapatalk team has not improved or updated their product to work with K 3.0. If you have questions about if, when or how Tapatalk intends to update or improve their product to work with K 3.0, please direct your questions to the Tapatalk team .

thanks again for the preview picture. Looks great.
Will there be a template for uddeIM 3.x? Would be cool to have the same style as in forum. Also a "back to forum" link i'd like to see.

Have a smooth week

As a side note, Joomla Extension Update Manager should show the 3.0 package.
