How can I permanently delete hundreads of spam posts?

Category: General questions and how-tos

Yes, in principle you're right. There are to many steps for this option to do that if you have so many spam. But you can also prevent the problem by delete permanently all user posts during the ban. In the frontend "User -> tab New Ban" is this option available.
If you want, then create a topic for your sugestion here in this category please.

Why Kunena is so weak to against spambots?

I understand that those spambots registered via Joomla , not Kunena. But, they posted those spam messages via Kunena, not Joomla, right?
I am sure they are "bots" because they can post more than 37 thousand posts with random topics in about 3 days, and spreaded in all subforums of my Kunena. Do you think a real human can do this, manually?

It is very clear that Kunena can not prevent those spam messages, even after I had already enabled "a user must wait 600 seconds to post again".

Could you please improve Kunena to stop spam messages? For example, limit the maximum number of messages a single user can post in a single day?

Thank you.

All above suggested operations require many steps.
I have a better idea:
Create a new button named "Empty Trash" at backend trash manager page, after click on this button, there will ask again (confirm), then, If the admin choose "Yes", then Kunena will AUTOMATICALLY delete those messages in continuous steps with about only 50 items in each step, to avoid high CPU usage and crush. The website admin only needs to click twice : one for the button, and one for the confirmation button. Then Kunena will do everything else to completely empty the trash, no matter how many posts were stored in the trash.

What do you think about this idea?

If you choose "All" then mark for delete only a limited part of the results by holding Shift button. Or delete it in the frontend. Create a second Kunena menu item "Recent Topics" and choose "Select View = Deleted Topics". This menu item listed all deleted topcs per chosen time period and you can delete permanently all marked topics.

Kunena has no own registration and no own users. If you use in Kunena the register button, you get only a redirect to your Joomla registration. Users which are registered in Joomla, are then also Kunena users. If you want to prevent to register spam bots so you must do this with Joomla tools. Why Kunena is so weak to against spambots?

Category: General questions and how-tos

I am running Kunena 5.1.12.1 on Joomla 3.9.4, both are the latest version.

However, I got thousands of spam posts on my forum soon after I purged them. Some spambots can even login my website frontend and post messages AFTER I had already set the whole website "offline" in General Configuration of Joomla backend.

I had already enabled CAPTCHA and "anti spam flood" options in Kunena Configurations. But spam posts still come in.

Could you please make Kunena more strong to against spambots?

Thank you.

On the "Trash Manager" backend page, the "numbers" dropdown did not offer "200" or "300", just "100" and "all". For my server, 100 is OK, but "all" will cause 500 error because of high usage of CPU. I think you can off numbers such as "200" and "300" or allow admin to manually input an number.

Thank you.

If there is no such option you must definitely add it in the backend, even with warning message, just to be sure!

Such an option already exists. Mark all posts or topics in the trash and click on "Purge items", then you will see the warning: These xxx items will be permanently deleted from your forum! Are you sure?

How can I permanently delete hundreads of spam posts?

In Kunena backend there is the option to "Trash messages" from a user.

My problem is that I have several spammers who have posted hundreads of spam posts. Kunena justs deleted them. I want them permanently deleted because as an admin I see dozens of pages which block me from seeing previous posts.

Look at this guy.

Yes, I have som human spammers too. They seems to come from poor countries and I read that they get 0,25 cent per spam.

No matter what security you implement....if you allow users to register, spammers can register manually....I see an increase in manual registrations, even filling in questions that are very specific and are manually checked by admin.

bug: messages in "trash" still shown on Latest Post module

Category: K 5.1 Support

My Kunena is the latest version 5.1.12.1 , and the Latest Module is also the latest version 5.1.1 .

I noticed that though I had moved posts from a spambot into the "trash", but I still can see those messages on the "Latest Post" module ( mod_kunenalatest_v5.1.1_2018-07-15 ) on the frontend of my website.

I checked this with guest visitor ( log out) .

Don't you think this is a bug?

Thank you.

Yes, you're right, manipulations in the database are always a risk. I've also noticed, when I delete many spam posts, that it takes some time. Therefore I delete the spam messages during the user ban in the frontend permanently. Then we have not so many messages in the trash.

How to quickly empty messages in the Trash ?

Category: K 5.1 Support

Thank you @rich. I checked again, when the method is "topic" instead of "messages" on the Trash Manager page, then after I click the "Purge Items" button, there will show "0 items", and I can not delete any item. But if I choose "messages" as the filter, I can delete messages there.

However, I also noticed one thing: If I choose the batch number as "100", and try to delete 100 items once, I can see CPU usage from MySQL soared to "87%" on my server, this can be observed via the "top" command of the Linux server. Think about it, only 100 items, 100 items costs so high MySQL usage! If I choose "ALL" as the batch number filter, I will get "500 error" since this task can not be executed.

But I finally choose to delete those spam messages on the Trash Manager instead of phpMyAdmin, because I am afraid I will destroy my Kunena if I use phpMyAdmin. That is not an individual table as I imagined. I thought there should be a tabled named "#_kunena_trash" but not.

Thank you.
