Replied by Gindi on topic How to upgrade from kunena
The first thing you should do is create a backup of the version you want to change.
The migration should be carried out on a local test server (XAMP) or in a subdomain for security reasons.
If you have migrated Joomla 3 to Joomla 4, the Kunena upgrade can be carried out according to these instructions.
Upgrade
A migration from Joomla 3 to Joomla 4 is necessary because Joomla 3 works with Bootstrap2 and Joomla4/5 works with Bootstrap5.

Warum muß das unbedingt mit Kunena erstellt werden.
Für Joomla gibt es sehr gute FAQ-Erweiterungen, auch kostenlose.

Hello,
after the Update from Joomla 3 to Joomla 4 and Kunea 5 to Kunea 6, i become an Error message. If i click to "new topic" or if i want to read an old topic i get this error message:

Error while rendering KunenaLayout.
Table 'xx.xx_kunena_private' doesn't exist

I changend the template to the Joomla Standard Template Cassiopeia, but here also the same Error message.

Introduction:

The Kunena team is thrilled to announce the maintenance release of Kunena 6.2.5, a native Joomla extension for Joomla 4.4+ and Joomla! 5.0.

We've implemented native support for Joomla 5. This means you don't have to enable the new compatibility plugin "Behaviour - Backward Compatibility " on Joomla! 5.0 for it to work with Kunena.

We encourage all translators to update translations on transifex.com on some of them the translations hasn't been updated since a while. Kunena 6.2 has been designed to work from Joomla! 4.4 and on Joomla! 5.0, the requirements are the followings :
  • Php 7.4.1 to Php 8.3.x (the support of php 8.2.x has been be improved since Kunena 6.1, there aren't anymore deprecated message)
  • MySQL 5.7.30
  • Bootstrap 5.1

The work done in Kunena 6.2 is the following:

  • The support of php 8.2.x has been be improved, there aren't anymore deprecated message
  • Add the possibility to load a Joomla! module on Kunena login to have the keypass support on the authentification. Need to define in the template configuration of Aurelia the id of Joomla! module to use.
  • Notify banned user by email
  • New setting in Kunena configuration to set the date format of your choice to be used by datepicker
  • Differenciate check for requirements on Kunena install between mysql and mariadb
  • Allow to modify to different karma users in time allowed
  • Store the data about notifications into the database to be send later by CRON task, need an extra plugin to make it work

Download:

Download K6.2.5 here: https://github.com/Kunena/Kunena-Forum/releases/tag/6.2.5

This means that the Kunena 6.1 series is in end of life and will is discountinued, there won't be new versions of K6.1.

Hallo zusammen,

Übrigends geht es um diese Seite hier: www.rf4-spots.de/index.php/forum

Vielen Dank im Voraus für jede Antwort!

I think we can all agree that code is the better way. The reason why the smilies are inserted as images is because we couldn't find any other way to use more smilies than were available by default in the CKeditor.

I cannot imagine that this should be the reason.
In Joomla 3.10.10 and Kunena 5.2.9 with BlueEagle5 1.6.7 the CKEditor was used. At that time, the smilies that were available in /media/kunena/emoticons were also displayed in the CKEditor.
In a topic from 2020 and a post from 03.11.2020 an emoticon was displayed as code.
<img src="/BFB31010/media/kunena/emoticons/icon_unknownauthor_weissnich.gif" alt=":weissnicht:" title=":weissnicht:" class="bbcode_smiley" /> </div>

On 27.12.2020, an emoticon was displayed as a graphic (torn leaf with bent top right corner in square frame)
<div class="kmsgimage">
        <a href="/media/kunena/emoticons/icon_grill.gif" title="" data-fancybox="gallery">
        <img src="/media/kunena/emoticons/icon_grill.gif" style="max-height: 800px; max-width:auto " />

Between those two times I must have probably installed Kunena 5.2.0 and from then on something was changed from code to image.
Before 03.11.2020 all emoticons were displayed as code and after 27.12.2020 as graphics.

Introduction:
The Kunena team is thrilled to announce the third public...

Introduction:

The Kunena team is thrilled to announce the third public beta release of Kunena 6.3, a native Joomla extension for Joomla 4.4 an 5.0. This is a development release and should be only be used for testing; this version is not recommended for live websites at this stage.

The purpose of this release is to encourage testing by downloading, installing and identifying any problems or shortcomings that people may discover. K 6.3.0 B3 is stable and we are aware that people will discover defects. We encourage you to use the forum to report defects, as soon as they are discovered, so that the development team can work through the problems before the release of K 6.3 as a stable product. Reporting defects does not mean that the problems can or will be fixed. The Kunena team is looking forward to hearing your feedback on how well we have achieved our design goals.

Kunena 6.3 has been designed to work on Joomla! 4.4 and later (for testing purpose it can be installed on beta of Joomla! 5.1), the requirements are the followings :
  • Php 7.4.1 to Php 8.3.x
  • MySQL 5.7.23 to MySQL 8.3.0
  • Bootstrap 5.1

The work done in Kunena 6.3 is the following:

  • Refactor the backend views to be compatible with Joomla! 5.0 (thanks to ruud)
  • Some bugfixes and refactor of code
  • Replace Twitter by X in all places where it was used and add bluesky social network
  • Replace some deprecated usage of methods Joomla! from in the code
  • Implementation of handle of mentions in a message when using CKeditor
  • Get list of users for autocomplete in search form

Download:

Download K6.3.0 Beta3 here: https://github.com/Kunena/Kunena-Forum/releases/tag/6.3-Beta3

This means that the Kunena 6.2 series is approching the end of life and will be discountinued, with the future release of K6.3 in stable there won't be new versions of K6.2 after that.

Do you want a completely new forum just because of the difficulty with the migration, or do you want to fundamentally reorganise the forum?
If you want a new forum, the best way would have been if you had already removed Kunena 5.1 from the old Joomla installation via Kunena -> Tools -> Uninstall Kunena. Then search for Kunena via the extension manager to uninstall all Kunena extensions, if available. Then migrate Joomla to 4.4.3 and then reinstall Kunena.
Since you still have the old site, try it this way. But make sure you keep a backup of your old site.
This would have been the right way to migrate: docs.kunena.org/en/basics/upgrade/upgrade-k6-x
And this is a guide for a new installation for Kunena 6.x: docs.kunena.org/en/basics/installation/installation-k6-x

I would like to make change to the Aurelia template.  For example, I would like to use a custom set of
topic icons in the editor and have title for hovering over the icon.

Joomla has the concept of a child template of Cassiopeia. Does kunena Aurelia have something like this?
How would I go about changing the default.php in /components/com_kunena/template/aurelia/layouts/topic/edit/
without it being overwritten by a kunena update?

The second fix (1722-1733) looks like it works, without breaking anything. I'll do more testing.

Ok, thank you. I did some checking on one of my other sites - when lines 71-75 are commented out, Kunena gives an error "0 - Class "CBuser" not found" - we'll need to check that the rest of the plugin works as well once any changes are made.
