I have seen these errors before. Sometimes the errors are caused by another Joomla extension .

Can anyone advise of the settings required to create an RSS feed from a Kunena 4 forum?

I am unable to get it working. I have entered the RSS url into a feed validator ( feedvalidator.org/ ) and it returns it is Invalid.....

e.g.

Sorry

This feed does not validate.

line 1, column 1: XML parsing error: <unknown>:1:1: XML or text declaration not at start of entity [help]

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
^
In addition, interoperability with the widest range of feed readers could be improved by implementing the following recommendation.

Feeds should not be served with the "text/html" media type [help]

thanks,
Geoff

Thank you for that reply. I turned highslide off and it did the job!

now i have another problem... im trying to integrate the rss feed to my facebook feed using RSS Graffiti, and i got this error:

Error retrieving the feed
XML error: Reserved XML Name at line 2, column 38

So i went to feedvalidator.org and they reported this problem:

Sorry

This feed does not validate.

line 2, column 0: XML parsing error: <unknown>:2:0: xml declaration not at start of external entity [help]

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
In addition, interoperability with the widest range of feed readers could be improved by implementing the following recommendations.

Feeds should not be served with the "text/html" media type [help]

Your feed appears to be encoded as "utf-8", but your server is reporting "US-ASCII" [help]

I searched for other topics with similar circumstances to this case. In all cases that I found there was some "third-party extension" that caused the problem. The disappointing fact was that none of the users who reported their problems was able to provide us with the details of which specific "third party extension" was responsible.

So, that's not much help.

Getting back to this case, xillibit's suggestion is probably right. There is some other factor working against Kunena. Perhaps the issues lie with the RocketTheme template? :S

Getting back to the "legacy mode" aspect, I strongly urge you to look into what it is that requires you to need to have legacy mode enabled. uddeIM works quite well with J! 1.5 running "natively" (well, the versions that I have been using for many months do, anyway). Legacy mode was only supposed to be used temporarily in any event. Joomla 1.6 does not have any such "legacy mode", there is no support for J! 1.0 software and these are another two good reasons why you should not be running any J! 1.0 software on your website.

You will also need, as a minimum, Joomla 1.5.18 if you intend to run Kunena 1.8. Here are more reasons why it is important for you to keep your website components up-to-date.

Good luck :)

Starting in 1.5.11, did not use .10, my RSS feeds see to work but do not render in IE or FF.

XML Parsing Error: XML or text declaration not at start of entity
Location: lvehoa.com/home/members-forum/rss.html
Line Number 1, Column 2: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
^

If I do a view source on the page all of the data is indeed there just does not render.
I used outlook to verify that external readers are working and they are.

Hi all,

My RSS feed has suddenly started causing issues. I'm on Kunena 1.5.9, just updated JomSocial to 1.6.285 and sh404SEF to 1.5.6.398 of either of those two things are important.

Here's the feed link.....

www.nzmac.com/fb_rss.html?no_html=1

In Firefox I get....

XML Parsing Error: XML or text declaration not at start of entity
Location: www.nzmac.com/fb_rss.html?no_html=1
Line Number 2, Column 1:<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
^

Running the feed through validator.w3.org/feed/ I can't see anything wrong with the feed, but it is saying that the feed isn't valid?
