There are several topics on this forum that explain how to copy a forum from one site to another. Alternatively, if you do not want to spend the few hours doing this yourself, you could always engage a professional expert to do the job for you.

Hi,

I tried to reset by default my kunena 3.0.3 component..

I observed that whenever I enable this General/basic settings/Send E-mails to Users
the error shows up.. When I reply in the topic and submit my answer it will take 3 min to be posted and will give error "Couldnt initiate mail function" ...

I can do mass email no issues but when it comes to kunena it does not allow me to recieve subscription.

Solution I tried..

- I reinstalled kunena - did not work
- I uninstalled community builder and other component - not working still
- I install fresh joomla and fresh kunena same hosting everything was was fine and I recieved subscription, but then when I load my akeeba backup with the old files then the issues is back.So I can confirm that some configurations are incorrect thus giving me the error on subscription

I am willing to install new joomla 2.5 and fresh kunena but how to transfer all the topics from the old kunena?

I really can't find a solution I believed this is kunena issues already since I tried solutions above.

Please help.

It may if you read the important notice (about configuration reports) that appears at the top of this page. If you look at other topics in this forum you will see that most other people usually get a reply quicker if they include their configuration report.

K 3.0.3 is outdated and not supported. We suggest that you upgrade to K 3.0.5.

G'day, grant512, and welcome to the community.

I'm sorry that no-one has responded to your topic in over one month. I would suggest that one possible reason why there has been a lack of response is because you did not give us too many details about your website; it might have helped if we knew more about how you have configured Joomla and Kunena, what versions of software you are using, etc.

Did you discover the reason why you received "mail could not be instantiated" messages?

Hi admin,

I have been troubleshooting for 2 days and I don't know whats wrong with our forum.

We cannot recieve any notification even if we choose to subscribed or turn ON the subscription settings.

Also I find it weird If I enable the "Send E-mails to Users" under General settings, upon posting new topics or repying will show up an error saying "mail could not be initiated"...

The error will show up in kunena front end.

- I tried sending email in joomla and it worked
- I have other website using kunena diff hosting and I recieved notification and whenver I enable "Send E-mails to Users" I do not experience slow loading when posting a reply and I do not experience error like "mail could not be initiated"...

Please help

more information,
1) each user is enabled and activated in joomla
2) each user can login and be authenticated with username and password
3) when requesting a new password the site can email the user to change password.
so i it looks like joomla is set up with usernames and passwords.

thank you again for your help!

Kunena Developer - I am running this on a GoDaddy shared server with SMTP settings per their instructions. Joomla! SMTP email settings

Because it is a relay-hosting server used exclusively for their shared hosting accounts, it does not require a username or password. I don't like using the relay-hosting.secureserver.net server that they provide because email is not sent immediately. The "shared" emails are sent out as a batch every xx minutes.

Back in August when I first transfered to GoDaddy, and realized this "problem" - after a long hard search online I came across a forum thread discussing GoDaddy and Joomla and someone said they were able to use an SMTP server used by GoDaddy accounts being run on a dedicated server - and that address worked until a few days ago. (They found me out?)

So I first went back to the relay-hosting server (which is frustrating for new users waiting for a confirmation email) - so today went back to "PHP Mail" - which is what shows in the Joomla "Mailer" selection and is now sending instantaneous emails. The fields are shown in th ereport beacus ethey asre remaining from when I had the setting set to SMTP. If I switch the "Mailer" selection from "PHP Mail" back to SMTP it will also work just fine (yes without a username or password) for sending mass emails via Joomla.

Believe me I was confused about the blank username and password too. If you put your master GoDaddy email username and password in there (and don't leave it blank) - it won't work. But yet, that is what I had to use to connect to the old (non-supported) SMTP server for dedicated server accounts that stopped working on me.

I'll try a few things like emptying those fields - and let you know if I have any luck getting mail to be sent via Kunena. But it shouldn't matter - just like it doesn't matter that I have an ftp server and login info in the Joomla FTP option while it is disabled.(That won't work under a GoDaddy shared hosting account either). Like I say - it's just strange that it works in Joomla and not from Kunena - I thought you guys might shed some light on why. I can't be the only Kunena user out there running this configuration on a Godaddy shared server account.
