Search Results (Searched for: Could not instantiate)

Hi thank you and sorry for the late reply. I made the above change into the database. Now this error is gone.
But I do get a new error > Error 500: Could not instantiate mail function.
Which means the email can not be sent to the user/moderator. When I check the forum the new post (or reply) is visible, thus added to the database.
Whether I enable or disable the subscription in config, still this error comes up.
In diagnostics check everything is green (test passed)

What can be the reason for not sending the email? All our other email functionality on the site (registration, etc) is working fine.

oomla! version: 4.1.5 and 4.2.2
PHP version: 8.0.22
Kunena version: 6.0.2

Kunena config is exactly the same as when the email notifications worked. I cannot think about any change to the site that would cause this problem, the last forum email notification was delivered on Wed, 2 Feb 2022 02:11:55 -0800 (PST)

I am repeating the error as provided by my host:

SMTP syntax error in "RCPT TO: [GGC Forum] <forum@>" H=() [127.0.0.1]:52596 I=[127.0.0.1]:25 missing or malformed local part (expected word or "<")
2022-02-08 11:26:57.198 [51155] H=() [127.0.0.1]:52596 I=[127.0.0.1]:25 incomplete transaction (connection lost) from <forum@>

The Kunena debug error is: Could not instantiate mail function.

Thanks for the hint, still the same problem after updating to  5.2.8  The debug error is: Could not instantiate mail function. BTW  Other than Kunena email notifications, all other emailing from the site work (Contacts, ChroneForms etc)

Hello,

Which SMTP server are-you using ?
24 Nov 2021 20:36
I did disable HTML mail and the plain text mails are working.

What could cause this kind of problems?
23 Nov 2021 21:20 - 23 Nov 2021 21:25
I have the same problem again as (see my topic 4 weeks ago) but now the problem occurs again.

I did update my site to the latest Joomla version and Kunena version. Testmailing from the site works. Both when using phpmail or smtp mail.
When I use php mail I get an error when a user posts something on the forum : Could not instantiate mail function
When I use smtp mail I get the following error : The following From address failed: <mailadres> : MAIL FROM command failed,,,SMTP server error: MAIL FROM command failedSMTP server error: MAIL FROM command failed

Any ideas how to find the root cause of this problem?

Yes, there are such mysterious errors where you can't figure out what triggered them.
26 Oct 2021 19:45
Dear all,
I do not know what happened but I did not change anything but when testing now. I do not get the error and messages are delivered.
Very strange ...

Good for me :-) but no root cause :-s

Hi Rich,

Yes the field "Visible E-mail Recipient" contains the same e-mail as configured in the mail settings for Joomla.
And there are no e-mails in the inbox (and not in spam).

Is it possible to enable more logging to find out what is the problem? I tried debug logging in Kunena but did not find new/more information.

Best regards,

You have a valid email address in the  field "Visible E-mail Recipient" in the configuration -> (tab Users)?
Check also your spam folder, maybe the mails are handled as spam.

I did try changing the email config from phpmail to smtp (sendmail not allowed by hosting company).
But then I ran into other problems : The following From address failed: xxxxxx@: MAIL FROM command failed,,,
I did masked the email from address
Besides that it did work fine with php mail ...

I did enable kunena debug mode but I did not notice any other error messages

I did search this forum and the internet but didn't find an example of the same issue in recent history.
26 Oct 2021 07:05
I noticed the problem yesterday. First things I did was check if there were new versions for the Joomla software and Kunena software.
I did an upgrade from Joomla 3.9.x to 3.10.x
I did an upgrade from Kunena 5.1 (not sure) to 5.2.x

Besides those updates no changes on the configuration. I do not know if my hosting company did any changes but I do not think that the cause of the problem is on there side because the test email from the joomla website does work (and from the contact page).

After the problem still the same issue.

Have you changed anything on your website in the last four days?
25 Oct 2021 23:41
Since the last 4 days whenever somebody posts a message there is no longer mailing to the subscribed users.
An error messages appears : Could not instantiate mail function.

I'm using Kunena on Joomla 3.10. The test mail in Joomla works fine.
Mailing from other components (contact page) works on the joomla website.

How can I find the root cause of the problem?

if you put a look on my initial-posting, the screenshot-1 with this strange message of "Could not instantiate mail function" - could this be a trace to the mal-function ?
