I understand that; I was simply making the comparison.

jhebbel wrote: Just pointing out that subscribing to a category will not notify you of messages, only topics.

I could be wrong but that's not my understanding. Simple way to test the theory is to subscribe to a category (here on this forum) and see if notification of replies to a topic within the category are emailed. Then we can discuss the matter further. B)

Can you show me the URL of a forum—any forum (does not have to be Kunena)—where the URL opens a single message (not a page of messages)? Kunena has never had this feature. I do not understand why you would say this is a bug. Sorry.

I agree with 810 and, in fact, I do not think I have seen this feature in any online discussion forum that I have used over the last 20+ years.

Actually, in K 4.0, that's not true. You can be subscribed to category or the topic but you do not have to be subscribed to both (unless something has changed in K 5.0). As a further clarification, the if a person is subscribed (to the topic or the category) and that person posts a new message, the author of a post will not receive an email. Only other subscribers receive the emails.

Try this CSS rule:
Code:
tr#kpost-topicicons > td.kcol-mid > span, div#smilie { display: inline-flex; }

What kind of "code" do you want to embed? Do you mean you want to use normal HTML tags in Kunena?

810 has summed up the possibilities fairly well but there are difficulties with each depending on what you choose:

1) overrides are messy and time consuming and, if there are changes made to Kunena, some of the overrides may fail when you upgrade.

2) as with 1 above, creating your own template (based on the existing template), may require further changes when the Kunena core software is changed.

3) a plugin can disable the link (fairly easy to do now by going to Plugins » Kunena - Kunena Integration » Enable Kunena Profiles = No) but how will logged-in users edit/change their own profiles and replace their avatars?

4) extremely time-consuming to locate the relevant parts of the Kunena core, make the changes, and remember to re-apply the changes with successive upgrades. For this reason, those people who hack the core usually do not upgrade after doing it once. Further, once you've hacked the core, you void any "warranty" or support from the developers or the rest of the community. In effect, you're on your own.

I agree with @Josh. From what I've read, upgrading from K 4.0 to K 4.0 should be fairly straightforward. As far as I can tell, K 5.0 contains one additional database table (someone can correct me if I am mistaken) and no structural changes to the other tables. This should mean that K 5.0 should be backwardly-compatible with K 4.0 and, if you find K 5.0 is not workable in your environment, you should be able to downgrade to K 4.0.

As far as the stability of K 5.0 is concerned, that's a matter of opinion. I agree with @Josh that there are issues with styling that affect the UX but I would add that there are bigger problems with the UI. However, given the history of development with K 4.0, there are a few question marks surrounding the stability of the feature set within K 5.0. Will new features be added that break parts of the system that previously worked; that kind of thing.

Unlike K 4.0 which effectively went through ten beta releases (during which time there were new features—some of which affected third-party template developers—added to the core) until K 4.0.6 was released, K 5.0 has been relatively more "stable". The bigger problems with the overall UX are, in my opinion, more to do with how users of Crypsis will adapt to the new appearance and layout of the forum controls. It is for reasons of the stability of the feature set, given the experience of K 4.0, that will prevent many people from adopting K 5.0 after the first "stable" version is released.

Overall, it would seem that should be few (if no) technical reasons preventing people upgrading Kunena.

It would be better to write a plugin to do this. In that way you would not have to continually hack the PHP source files every time you need to update the component.

All someone to do is to understand that the Kunena developers have no intention of implementing your idea for K 4.0.

romagromov wrote: [replacing files after each update is normal practice. [I have been doing it for] several years after each Kunena update.

It's not "normal practice" to hack a component'a core files. It's normal practice to use template overrides or plugins if someone wants to customise a component's features or, if someone feels they can do a better job, to fork the project. Anyway, the point still remains: there are no H1 titles in K 4.0 (and there will never be H1 titles in K 4.0) and that should be the end of the discussion. B)

I posted above files with fixed H tags and Meta tags Description and Keywords.

But not for K 4.0. The developers have stated: there will be no K 4.0.12.

All of this recent discussion about H1 titles in Kunena version 4.0 is irrelevant. The developers wrote in msg #24 :

810 wrote: K4.0 is EOL and will not be updated.

The rest of the discussion went off on tangent and talked about K 5.0 RC2, K 5.0 RC3, what could happen in K 5.0, what problems currently exist in K 5.0, tables vs. divs and nothing to do with the forum category in which this topic was posted. I'm lost as to what this topic is about; perhaps someone could remind me.

The subject says "H1 Titles in Kunena" and it was posted in the K 4.0 General Questions category—there are no H1 titles in K 4.0 and that should be the end of the discussion.

If people want to debate whether the Crypsis design should change from tables to divs, then create a separate topic for it. If people want to discuss the problems in K 5.0, there is a whole category for those things. If people want to discuss how to improve Kunena SEO, there are 4 or 5 other topics doing just that.

As I wrote in msg #25 , please close this topic because the original question has now been answered. There are no H1 tags in K 4.0 and the development team has no intention of changing. End of topic.

*** Possibly off-topic ***

I was browsing through the topics in the Joomla forum today and I came across a discussion about copying/pasting from MS Word into Joomla articles. It appears there's something odd about J! 3.5 that will be addressed in J! 3.6.

As I indicated, this discovery may have nothing to do with GJSchaller's problem with Kunena and it may not even be a clue why his problem cannot be reproduced on this website, but it may be indicative of a broader underlying matter.

Think about mobile and tablet.

One of the biggest criticisms about Crypsis is that the UX is not friendly; that's not my criticism and it's not the only criticism. Of course, the use of small-screen/touch-screen/mobile devices is important (I don't think anyone's denying that). The problem for new users of Crypsis is that the layout of the UI is not intuitive. I think that's what jhebbel is trying to address.

Excellent @chiripas. Although there are a couple of ideas I'm uncomfortable with (e.g. restructing the SEF URLs—putting the topic ID at the end) at this stage of development, perhaps some of them could be implemented in K 5.0.

One of your ideas that particularly interested me—although it plays a small part in SEO—was where you wrote "There are a lot of images and icons without the ALT tag". Amen to that!

Crypsis does not pass the accessibility guidelines. For this reason, organisations and businesses that have a commitment to people with disabilities will be forced out of K 5.0 or any future version of Kunena that fails to accommodate these basic needs.
