Kunena 2.0 is already running on 2 large forums. One of them has 2,2 million posts in it, another one (my site) is smaller and having only 200k posts.

Kunena 2.0 is a major rewrite from Kunena 1.6. Most of the changes are under the hood moving almost all code into well defined objects and MVC. Everything is build on top of Kunena framework/library, which allows easy integration with Kunena API. New structure also allows us to have major performance improvements and data reuse between different views and modules. Also database has been optimized for speed -- Every page load is now 50-400% faster, depending on level of caching and many other variables.

In current state Kunena 2.0 is only fully usable with the old template from K1.6 and runs only in Joomla 1.5.22+. So what needs to be done, is to finish the new tableless template and to finish Joomla 1.6 support (many parts of the code was written before K1.6 got J1.6 support). This task shouldn't be too bad, though..

There are also a few new features, but we will reveal those later. But the main focus has been internal restructuring to allow us to have new cool features and performance.

I don't provide support by PM, because this can be useful for someone else.
