The answer to the general question about what permissions you should apply to Joomla - leaving aside any discussion about Kunena for the time being - is answered here: docs.joomla.org/What_are_the_recommended...ctory_permissions%3F

Hi,

When users try to upload new avatar they get this error (copy failed, rename failed)

I have already set the necessary folder/file permissions at media/kunena but still face the same problem.

Any help pls?

Thanks!

Hi ash888, welcome to Kunena,

The first thing you need to do is upgrade to Kunena 1.7.2 (and all the Kunena Plugins), Community Builder to 1.8 and UddeIM to 2.6.

How big are the files you are trying to upload?

Please read the FAQ.

All folders in your site should be set with the same permissions (i.e. 755) and all files should be set with the same permissions (i.e. 644) and all files/folders should be owned by Apache:Apache. These are Joomla's recommendations and this is documented in Securing Kunena .

See also other advice given earlier in this [merged] topic.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. The file size are small.

I forgot to mention that this is a duplicate site that I change to another server. For the original site it is working fine and I'm able to upload avatars. The original and duplicate have the same extension version so I think thats not the issue.

How do I check if all the files/folders are owned by Apache:Apache?

Heres the Kunena settings from the original site:

We recommend that you upgrade to K 1.7.2 because this version fixed about 50 known issues with K 1.7.0. We also recommend upgrading Kunena Latest and Kunena Login to the most recent versions.

You asked how to check if all files and folders are own by Apache. That's a question easily answered by your webhost who can also help you change the ownership.
