I am having the same trouble. Dumping and recreating the database is not really an option for me though. I try to create the Kunena menu from the control panel and this is what I am getting as an error report:

500 - An error has occurred.
Another menu item has the same alias in Root. Root is the top level parent

Return to Control Panel

The database row is empty.

Solved. What I had to do is go into the shell of a menu that Kunena would create when I got this erorr message. It was in the menu manager, but it had no items in the menu. You have to create one. And, it is a two step process.

Create an menu item called "Entry Page" as the title.
Make the Menu Item Type "Entry Page" from the Kunena section of the selection box.
under the Required Settings dropdown.
Choose a random Default Menu Item. It doesn't matter what you pick.
Save and close.
Click on the Entry Page menu item you just created to edit it.
Go under the required Settings dropdown.
You should now have, as an option under the kunena menu section an option for Entry Page. Choose it.
Save and close.

Your error should be gone the next time you reload.

Same problem occurred after updating Kunena.

Unfortuantely, no luck with the method described above by Jabbott. :(

Has anybody else solved this?

This is a really annoying problem, that seems to be quite common!

G'day, climatebites, and welcome to Kunena.

This is not common. We have not received any reports about this problem for over 8 months. Your configuration report may assist us to help you solve your problem. Can you post it here, please?

The solution, offered by Jabbot 8 months ago, was for a much older version of Kunena. As far as we know, this problem no longer occurs in K 1.7.2.
