The two most common elements involved in page redirection are

(1) Your .htaccess file; and
(2) Your Joomla menu

There are not the only causes.

Hi,

The link which you've given me gives me 500 Error page. I can't check your link.
I've never used Godaddy script on my hosting. I always uploaded everything by myself by FTP. The situation is not that easy because I migrated from 1.5.11 to 1.6.1. Even if it would work on fresh installation that has to work on my old live site and I do not really want to delete the old Kunena forum posts. But one thing which I still don't understand. Why did Kunena 1.5.11 work on my same site with same config, template and on same host before and now why doesn't?

tracysanz: I make no recommendations about any particular webhosting company. Each user can verify for themselves (and should verify for themselves) the viability of running a production website on the webhost that they're using (or that they're considering to use).

The proof of the issue - that "upgrading to Kunena 1.6.1 causes a redirection loop problem" - can be ascertained very quickly (or within the amount of time that it takes to create a test site - about one hour).

The proof of the issue is to create a test site on your webhost with Joomla 1.5.22 and Kunena 1.6.1 and nothing else. The proof of the issue is to create this test site from scratch - in other words, do not use your webhost scripting tools to create the Joomla website.

This methodology should apply whether you are using GoDaddy, Bluehost or any webhosting service. If, after using the method I have described earlier, you still find that you have redirect loop issues, then you need to contact your webhost and tell them about it.

Ok.. I will make a test site on my localhost and at Godaddy as well. With "brand new" Joomla and Kunena. I will tell you the result.

Imre

none: I fixed the broken link but you could have checked yourself by searching for "Godaddy redirect".

Why didn't you have problems before in K 1.5.11 and now you do in K 1.6.1. I don't know the answer to that question, yet, and besides this is new information. This topic subject is "Upgraded from 1.6 beta, now redirect loop". I assumed that you were using K 1.6 beta before you upgraded to K 1.6.1. Apparently you weren't. :S

I'll see if we can bring some other opinions into this discussion.

Here is something that might explain why upgrading from an older version of Kunena to K 1.6.1 might result in a redirect loop.

You need to look carefully at your menu items to see if you have any items that already exist with the alias "forum". As you know, when you create a menu item in Joomla (and you leave the menu alias field blank (when you're creating your menu item) Joomla automatically fills it with something. For example if you create a menu item with the name "Kunena Forum", Joomla will automatically generate the alias name "kunena-forum".

What might be happening (that's causing the redirect problem) is that users already have a menu item with the alias "forum". Along comes Kunena 1.6.1 and it tries to create another menu item with the alias "forum". So you end up with two menu items, each of them with the same alias. That's when the website gets confused.

Perhaps a better approach is to recommend (a) trashing, then (b) permanently deleting the Kunena menu and any links to Kunena that the user may have on their site and then (c) recreate the Kunena menu.

Does this help?

I reached the point where I could get to the menu item okay, but got the redirect error when i clicked on any of the forum topics. Which would indicate it isn't a menu item problem?
