After installing the hot fix I find that:

A normal "Author" user who is subscribed to the thread did not receive a mail notification. This user did not make the post (I did).

I as a moderator and Super Administrator and another moderator and Super Administrator each received a mail notification.

I'll get on with the tests as set out by Matias.

As a side note, there is also a problem with quoting the subject of the thread in the notification e-mail, but I've created a separate thread as directed above.

BTW I'm still not receiving e-mail notifications (as a subscribed user) on this thread!

Hi Matias, Sozzled and anyone else...

First of all, many thanks for all you great work, I really owe you guys one.

Second, Matias, I have still not got to test the 1.5.10RC version, I have been really really busy lately with voluntary work, will get to it soon. Mail not working 1.5.7

Third, I know jackshit about PHP programmning and stuff, BUT, it seems to me that this whole mail notification problem started after the 1.5.7 release..... See the above treadh. (I never got to try out the 1.5.6 release)

In the Kunena changelog for 1.5.7 some email motifications had been made:
25-Oct-2009 Matias
^ [#18263] Update version info to 1.5.7RC2
* [#18495] Preview/posting message does not work (Firewall detects attack)
# [#18494] Optimize queries in Recent Discussions, My Discussions, Category page
* [#18496] E-mail Administrators option should not send messages to users which receive system messages

Is the #18496 change the problem to this whole situation??

Sorry if I am all wrong on this one, but this was just my thought.

Many thanks and best regards Mikkel.

In short no, it doesn't appear that is the case.

Mail notifications were working OK in 1.5.9, though there were some small issues.

If you check the changelog for 1.5.10(-2) a lot of work was done on mail notifications causing some regressions.

Oh maaaaaaaaaaaaaan! So I logged in as a registered user on my site under my sons username, posted, then posted under my username which is the super admin. I got email notification for the super admin but not for the registered user too. SOB! :P ...and I thought it was all fixed last night...Sorry Matias, I overlooked that last night!

But yes, registered users do not get emails.

So you're confirmed what I found and posted above, that ordinary subscribed users do not get mail notifications, but moderators and Super Administrators do. :)

To get some debug messages during posting put this file into components/com_kunena/template/default directory:

File Attachment:

File Name: post-20100324.zip
File Size:16 KB

Its purely meant debugging purposes only.. Please do not use this on live sites (where users are not allowed to see each others email addresses)

Results will look like this:

Configuration (1, 1, 1, hold=0)
Author: admin
Subscribers: admin, subs
* User mode (0, 1, 0)... Sending email to [email protected]
* User subs (1, 0, 0)... Sending email to [email protected]

Please also add forum permissions (everyone/registered only/special, which?)..

Fist line tells configuration options (subscriptions, moderators, admins and if message needs approval).
Second line is author of the post, who will not receive emails.
Third line lists all people who have been subscribed to the topic.
List will show who will receive emails. If you see only half of the message, email address is invalid.

Happy bug hunting! Please report unexpected findings to me.

To remove those debug messages, just install Kunena again (or copy over the original file).
