99% of user problems occur because of 1% of the special things they want to do that don't work. We've probably eliminated Community Builder and we've probably eliminated Joomla, so what's left? A lot more information is needed (here's a checklist:

Joomla version:
Kunena version:
mysql server version:
php version:
php max_execution_time:
php memory_limit:
safe_mode:
Joomla template:
Kunena template:

Some of these things may not be important (I wouldn't know).

Do these problems exist on a brand-new website where the only things installed are Joomla and Kunena? Maybe it's the webhosting service?

On top of all of these, there's always the possibility that there's a conflict between some other Joomla extension that's been installed. So, are you using a third-party SEF product, VirtueMart, image gallery, PMS, "discussbot", etc.? There has to be a cause for the problem. Finding it, however, could be like looking for a needle in a haystack. :( Further clues might be obtained if you give a link to the website where you're having these errors.

Well al previous versions so far of simpleboard, joomlaboard and fireboard have worked. I really would appreciate some response from someone who could help me (no offebnce but just gathering info without knowing if they are helpful or what to do with it I dont think is very productive).

Some of the info is already stated, like joomla version and kunena version. the others are according to what Kunena is said to run on.

best regards
Christian

Thank you for the work you're doing. It must seem such a burden.

Are you using Joomla 1.5.10 on your new website? JA_Purity or rhuk_milkyway template? Kunena 1.0.10 with default_ex template? Have you made any changes to Kunena's initial settings?

I'm sorry to seem nit-picky, but there are many variables involved here.

I am still using Joomla 1.0.15 as that is the version we are using on our live site.

I am suing the default template, have not even been into the configuration of Kunena and not changed ANYTHING in Joomla after install.

The things I did was.

1. create empty mysqldb
2. Extract Joomla
3. run installation
4. get rid off installation directory
5. log in to admin in joomla
6. Install Kunena component
7. Add Kunena to main menu
8. Switcxh to fron end
9. log in
10. press Kunena link in main menu
11. Select CATEGORIES tab

Best regards
Christian

I know that Matias has stated on a couple of occasions that Kunena 1.0.10 has been tested on a Joomla 1.0.15 site and that it works.

Can we eliminate Joomla 1.0.15 as a cause from your specific problem, almgren? What if you were to create an empty Joomla 1.5.10 website (as you have done in steps 1-4 of your procedure) then install Kunena (as you've done in steps 5-7), then login and test the functions (in steps 8-11) and inform us if the problems recur? If they don't the only difference is the version of Joomla and it supports my theory that there's a problem with Kunena 1.0.10. You have nothing to lose (except for your patience and wasting your time) and I'm sorry if it is a waste of time. I don't know what else to suggest at this stage. :(

Thank you so much! J! 1.5 installs very similarly to J! 1.0. The most important thing to remember before you install K 1.0.10 (about step 5½ in your procedure ;) ) is to ensure that you've got the "legacy mode" plugin enabled (see docs.kunena.com/index.php/Legacy_mode ).

Good luck :)

OK, that was easier than i thought ( I guess the hard part is to migrate a site with components and data in it).

Anyway, with Joomla 1.5.10 it works. I just had to turn on the legacy plugin

SO I guess the error is with Joomla 1.0.15

BTW, I now have to identical sites up and running with only Kunena. Anay developer who wants to have a look can get the URL and logins.

*PHEW* that was a tough job. Thank you for all your hard work (and for putting up with my interrogations), almgren.

I'm relieved, in a way, to hear that we've identified one case where Kunena 1.0.10 doesn't work in a Joomla 1.0.15 environment. It's possible (but I'm not totally convinced and I don't think the developers would be, either) that Joomla 1.0.15 may be responsible for a raft of other K 1.0.10 problems that haven't been solved.

In light of this new evidence, Joomla 1.0.15 may be a show-stopper for some users who want to upgrade to Kunena 1.0.10 and they may be forced to remain at K 1.0.9 until (or unless) these issues are addressed. ???

If I understand correctly, it was always intended that K 1.0.10 would be end-of-series for J !1.0.x, but maybe the end came a version earlier? Perhaps there will be a need for a K 1.0.11?

In any event, Kunena's life will be projected into the J! 1.5 "space" and this fact alone should be a substantial incentive to move people from their J! 1.0 comfort zones. B)
