Outcome: K 4.0.1 was installed using the Install from Web method (which uses a different package update.kunena.org/updater/pkg_kunena_v4.0.1_2015-06-10.zip )

It appears that the link referred to on this site's download page ( github.com/Kunena/Kunena-Forum/releases/...4.0.1_2015-06-10.zip ) does not work with the Install from URL method (the method referred to in this site's documentation) or the Upload Package File method.

The install: Custom install routine failure mean that you have installed RC2 by example and then you try to install RC1

Sorry, no.

The errors occured when, as I wrote at the beginning of this topic, I attempted to upgrade from K3.0.8 website. There had been no previous attempts, on this site, to upgrade K 4.0.x (alpha, beta, RCx, ... anything at all) on this website.

The installation kit at GitHub appears to be suspect. The Install from Web method worked—eventually—perhaps because it used a different installation kit? But the installation was difficult because of many peculiar messages. Installing K 4.0.1 requires time, much patience and a lot of detective work. Installing K 4.0.1 (or upgrading to K 4.0.1) is not easy, is counter-intuitive, and the Install from URL method (recommended in the Wiki) has not worked since K 3.0.7 when the installation kits were moved to GitHub.

Thanks for your reply, xillibit :)

Like i had previously said the issue with github come from a bad SSL certificate on the server : forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=708&t=873975#p3269582 or here : www.jadmins.com/43-general/73-joomla-3-3-5-update-issue

The Kunena package on github or get from install from web it's exactly the same

Are you able to correct the SSL certificate? Can you use the Install from URL method yourself? This is the method recommended in the Kunena Upgrade Guide (referred to in the K 4.0.1 release notes ).

This is what happens if people try to use the Install from URL method:

It has been like this since K 3.0.7.

The installation packages (the one on GitHub and the one on update.kunena.org ) may be the same but the installation does not work using the Install from URL method (see previous post) or Upload Package File method (see first post). I think there is problem where you are hosting the installation package on Github.

The Install from URL method does not work (for me, at least) for K 4.0.1. The Install from URL method is the recommended way to install Kunena—it has been this way for many years—and is the method recommended in the K 4.0.1 release notes that references the K 3.0 Upgrade Guide .

This method is demonstrated in the video (see sticky topic How to install K 3.0 ). Until the installation kits were moved to Github, this method always worked.

"SSL certificate" problems were first reported four months ago >>> here <<<

There have been other topics that also refer to these problems.

These problems began when the Kunena developers moved the installation kits to Gitub.

I ask anyone reading this topic to advise whether they also experience the kinds of problems as I have demonstrated—see the screenshot in msg #7 earlier—and reported elsewhere. I ask the developers to confirm if the Install from URL method works (or does not work) to install K 4.0.1 or if there is another installation method that people should use instead of the method recommended in the K 4.0.1 release notes .

Install from URL is deprecated from K3.0.7. I have edited the docs for now.
